Polished ads look like ads, and people scroll past ads. A face-to-camera clip of someone who sounds like a friend gets watched to the end. That is why UGC, user-generated content or content made to look like it, is the highest converting ad format we teach in the AI Marketing Professional Certificate, and why the script matters more than the camera.

Key takeaways

  • UGC converts because it is face-to-camera, authentic and creator-style, so it reads as a recommendation rather than an advertisement.
  • Every brand needs seven video types, and UGC is the one to master first because it converts best.
  • A UGC script has five beats: the struggle, the sceptical discovery, the result with a timeframe, the values line, and the commitment.
  • Keep any UGC read under 20 seconds, and for the MENA market record a Lebanese dialect version, because local dialect outperforms formal Arabic in UGC.
  • Direct the voice with ElevenLabs V3 delivery tags and always add captions, because most people watch on mute.

Why UGC converts

UGC converts because it does not look like the brand talking. It is face-to-camera, authentic and creator-style, which means the viewer processes it the way they process a friend's recommendation rather than a claim from a company. The lighting is a home bathroom, not a studio. The delivery is casual. Higgsfield's Marketing Studio, ElevenLabs and CapCut can now produce the clip, the voice and the edit. What none of them can do is write a script that sounds like a real person, which is the skill this article covers.

The seven video types every brand needs

UGC is one of seven video types every brand needs, and they map directly to the Marketing Studio formats, so the theory and the tool line up.

Video typeWhat it isWhat it does for the brand
UGCFace-to-camera, authentic, creator-styleThe highest converting ad format
TutorialStep by step, how to use the productRemoves the "how does it work" objection
UnboxingThe first-touch revealBuilds desire
Product reviewAn honest, trustworthy recommendationBorrowed credibility
Before and afterThe transformationYour strongest proof
Hyper motionHigh-energy bursts of the product in motionAttention and energy for social feeds
TV spotA short cinematic storyMakes the brand memorable

A skincare brand in Beirut does not need all seven on day one. Start with UGC because it converts, add a before and after because it proves.

The hair-serum UGC script, beat by beat

This is the worked example from the program. The visual direction: your model in a bright home bathroom, facing camera, casual and natural, holding the bottle toward camera. The voice, in English:

I have been struggling with thin, slow-growing hair for years. A friend recommended this serum, and honestly I was skeptical. But after just four weeks, I cannot believe the difference. My hair is longer, thicker, and healthier than it has ever been. And it is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free. I am never going back.

It is built from five beats, and each does a job.

  1. The struggle. "I have been struggling with thin, slow-growing hair for years." The viewer's own problem, stated in the first sentence, in the first person. No brand name yet.
  2. The sceptical discovery. "A friend recommended this serum, and honestly I was skeptical." The product arrives through a friend, not an ad, and the speaker admits doubt. That disarms the viewer's doubt before it forms.
  3. The result with a timeframe. "But after just four weeks, I cannot believe the difference. My hair is longer, thicker, and healthier than it has ever been." A specific period and three concrete outcomes.
  4. The values line. "And it is 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free." One sentence that answers the values question the audience would ask anyway.
  5. The commitment. "I am never going back." The close is a decision, not a sales line. The call to action belongs in the caption and the on-screen text, not in the speaker's mouth.

To write your own, swap the five nouns: the problem, who recommended it, the timeframe, the three outcomes, the value. A gym in Dubai might run "I have been trying to get back into training for two years, a colleague dragged me to this place, I was sure I would quit, six weeks in I have not missed a session."

The 20-second rule and the Lebanese dialect tip

Keep any UGC read under 20 seconds. The hair-serum script above lands inside that limit at a natural pace, and if yours does not, cut the middle rather than the beginning or the end. The struggle earns attention and the commitment earns the click; the outcomes in between can lose an adjective.

For the MENA market, record a Lebanese dialect version too. Authenticity in the local dialect outperforms formal Arabic in UGC, because nobody talks to a friend in Modern Standard Arabic. A Beirut brand should sound like Beirut, and the same logic applies to Gulf dialects for a Riyadh or Dubai audience. Write the dialect version as a fresh script in the same five beats rather than translating line by line.

Directing the voice with ElevenLabs V3 delivery tags

A professional voice lifts the whole ad, and ElevenLabs produces one in seconds. Choose a voice that fits the brand: warm and calm for a self-care product, energetic for fitness. Then direct the read with V3 delivery tags in brackets, the way a director would talk to a voice actor.

The example we use for the same hair serum, this time as a short brand voiceover:

[warm] Tired of waiting for your hair to grow? [confident] Get longer, fuller hair in thirty days. [pause] One simple step. Vegan, cruelty-free, real results.

Three tags, three shifts in delivery: warmth for the question, confidence for the promise, a pause before the proof. Keep a voiceover script like this around 10 seconds for a social ad, let it breathe, export the audio, and drop it into the CapCut timeline under the visuals.

Captions, because most people watch on mute

Most people watch on mute, so on-screen text is essential, not optional. In CapCut, captions are the first item in the editing layer, before music, transitions and B-roll. Music stays under any voiceover, a whip pan or fade hides the cuts, and product B-roll adds texture and pace.

For UGC, captions carry the five beats to the viewer who never turns the sound on, so the first caption has to work as a hook on its own. "Thin, slow-growing hair for years" reads as a hook. "Hi everyone" does not. The complete pipeline from start frames to export is in our guide to AI video ads with Higgsfield, ElevenLabs and CapCut.

Where this is taught

The seven video types, the hair-serum script and the ElevenLabs voiceover exercise are covered in week 3 of the AI Marketing Professional Certificate, where each participant leaves with a finished, platform-ready video ad.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a UGC video ad script be? Under 20 seconds when read aloud at a natural pace. If it runs long, cut adjectives from the results beat, not the struggle or the commitment.

Should the call to action be in the UGC script? Not in the speaker's mouth. The script ends on a commitment such as "I am never going back", and the call to action goes in the caption and the on-screen text, where it does not break the authentic feel.

Should I write UGC in formal Arabic or in dialect for Lebanon and the Gulf? Dialect. In UGC, authenticity in the local dialect outperforms formal Arabic, so write a Lebanese version for Lebanon and match the local dialect for each Gulf market rather than translating one script for the whole region.

Can AI generate the UGC video itself? Yes. Higgsfield's Marketing Studio has a UGC format: select it, upload your character and product, and it generates. ElevenLabs produces the voice and CapCut adds the captions. The script is still yours.
