Snapchat has 25 million monthly active users in Saudi Arabia, reaches 90 percent of everyone aged 13 to 34, and gets opened about 50 times a day, according to figures Snap gave Arab News when it opened its Riyadh office in November 2024. Yet most Gulf and Lebanese marketers we meet have run Meta and TikTok for years and never opened Snapchat Ads Manager. This guide covers what snapchat ads are, why they perform in the Kingdom, how to set up a first campaign step by step, what they cost, and the exact sizes for every format.

Key takeaways

  • Snapchat is a mass-reach platform in Saudi Arabia, not a teen app: 25 million monthly users, 90 percent of 13 to 34 year olds, and 71 percent of Saudi parents.
  • Ads Manager has five objectives: Awareness and Engagement, Traffic, Leads, App Promotion, Sales. Pick the one that matches the action you want.
  • Every format is vertical 9:16. Export at 1080 x 1920 and you cover Single Image or Video, Story, Collection and Sponsored Snaps.
  • The minimum budget is $5 a day, but Snap recommends $20 to $50 a day so the Exploration Phase finishes.
  • Arabic-first creative in local dialect, licensed local creators, and the Snap Pixel with the Conversions API separate campaigns that work from campaigns that burn budget.

What Snapchat ads are, in three sentences

Snapchat ads are full-screen, vertical ads bought through Snapchat Ads Manager, the same self-serve auction model as Meta and TikTok. They appear between friends' Stories, in the Discover feed, in Spotlight, in chat as Sponsored Snaps, and inside the camera as augmented reality Lenses and Filters. You set an objective, an audience and a budget, upload a 9:16 image or video, and Snap's system shows it to the people most likely to take the action you chose.

Why snapchat ads work in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is one of Snap's most important markets, and the audience behaves differently from the one you know on Instagram.

Reach that covers the whole buying population. In an August 2025 interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Snap's general manager for Saudi Arabia added that 60 percent of the most engaged users are over 25, 71 percent of Saudi parents are on the platform, and 85 percent of users interact with AR Lenses daily. Cars, real estate, furniture, family products: the buyer is there.

A camera-first habit. Snapchat opens on the camera, and Saudi users open it about 50 times a day, so people are already in the camera when your Lens or Filter appears.

Documented seasonal intent. On Snap's Ramadan page, 51 percent of Snapchatters in KSA say they plan to spend more during the season. For Saudi National Day, Snap's marketing guide cites a 2025 Suzy study in which 88 percent of Snapchatters had bought something for the occasion after seeing it on Snapchat, and nearly six in ten buy in early or mid September.

Growth is coming from markets like this one. In Snap's second quarter 2026 results, Rest of World daily active users grew 12 percent year on year to 303 million while North America and Europe were flat or down. For a Lebanese brand, that is also the cheapest way to reach export customers in the Kingdom with Arabic creative from a Beirut desk.

How Snapchat Ads Manager works

Ads Manager uses the same three levels as Meta: a campaign holds the objective, an ad set holds the audience, placements, budget and schedule, and an ad holds the creative. Snap walks through the flow in its Advanced Create guide; the Instant Create path is faster but hides most of the decisions. If you know the campaign, ad set and ad levels on Meta, you will feel at home.

Step-by-step: how to make Snapchat ads

  1. Create a business account. Go to ads.snapchat.com, sign in with a Snapchat account and create your business and ad account. A Public Profile is free, as Snap confirms on its pricing page.
  2. Install the Snap Pixel before you spend. Create it in Ads Manager and add it through Google Tag Manager, Shopify, Salla or Zid, or paste it manually. You want conversion data from day one.
  3. Choose the objective. Snap cut its objectives to five in 2024, described on its objectives post: Awareness and Engagement, Traffic, Leads, App Promotion, Sales. Choose the one you will judge the campaign by.
  4. Set up the campaign. Name it, set start and end dates, and set daily and lifetime spend caps.
  5. Build the ad set. Choose format and placements, then locations (country, region or city, so Riyadh and Jeddah can be separate ad sets), demographics, audiences and devices. Enter the daily budget, the bid and the goal you are optimizing for.
  6. Design the ad. Add brand name, headline, media and call to action, and attach the destination: a website, an app, a lead form or an AR Lens.
  7. Review and publish. Check schedule, budget and audience, and make sure the campaign is not set to Paused, or publishing will not make the ads live.

The five campaign objectives

From Snap's objectives post:

ObjectiveUse it when you wantFormats
Awareness and EngagementBrand awareness, video views, engagement, promoting a store locationSingle Image or Video, Story, Collection, Commercials, AR
TrafficVisits to a website or app, landing page viewsSingle Image or Video, Story, Collection, AR
LeadsContact details through a lead form or websiteSingle Image or Video, Collection, Story
App PromotionInstalls and in-app actionsSingle Image or Video, Story, Collection, AR
SalesCatalog sales, website conversions, app re-engagementSingle Image or Video, Story, Collection, AR

For most Gulf service businesses the answer is Leads or Sales. A WhatsApp-first funnel fits either: a landing page with a WhatsApp button the pixel records as an event, or the lead form with a WhatsApp follow-up within the hour.

Snapchat ad types, with sizes

Every format is vertical, full screen, 9:16. Specs come from Snap's ad formats page and the individual format pages.

  • Single Image or Video Ads. The workhorse: one image or video with brand name, headline and call to action, between Stories and in Spotlight. Snap's format page lists 1080 x 1920 px, 3 to 180 seconds, and attachments to a website, app, long-form video or AR Lens.
  • Story Ads. A branded tile in Discover that opens into a series of Snaps. The Story Ads page recommends them for product education and time-sensitive offers such as Ramadan promotions.
  • Collection Ads. A hero image or video with tappable product tiles along the bottom, which the Collection Ads page recommends for always-on e-commerce. If you sell on Salla or Zid, start here.
  • Sponsored Snaps. A Snap delivered to the chat feed; recipients can reply and brands can enable an auto-response.
  • Commercials. Non-skippable for the first six seconds, up to three minutes, inside curated content. Video only.
  • AR Lenses. Face and World Lenses people play with in the camera. Snap's Lenses page requires a visible logo, top left or top right. Build one in Lens Web Builder inside Ads Manager, which Snap says takes minutes with free 3D objects and no creative fee, or commission a Lens Studio build.
  • Filters. A static or animated overlay people add to their own Snaps.

Snap's overview lists 720 x 1280 for the video formats and its Single Image or Video page lists 1080 x 1920; export at 1080 x 1920 and both are satisfied. Arabic headlines fill 34 characters fast, so write the Arabic first and cut until it fits.

Targeting: who sees the ad

Snap's targeting page groups the options in three layers, and its lookalike guide covers the third.

  • Standard targeting: location down to city, age, gender, language, and Lifestyle categories built from what people watch and do in the app. Language targeting is how you split an Arabic ad set from an English one for expats in Riyadh and Jeddah.
  • Custom Audiences: a customer list of emails or phone numbers, or a Pixel Custom Audience of people who visited, added to cart or bought. This is your retargeting layer.
  • Lookalike Audiences: people similar to a Custom Audience, with three settings, Similarity, Balance and Reach. Snap suggests starting narrow and widening as results come in.

A first Saudi structure: one campaign on Leads or Sales, with an Arabic ad set by city and Lifestyle category, a lookalike of your customer list, and a pixel retargeting ad set. Same three creatives in each, so you can read audience and creative separately.

Snapchat ads cost

Snapchat ads are sold in an auction, so there is no fixed price per click or per thousand impressions, and Snap publishes no rate card for Saudi Arabia. What it does publish, on its pricing page, is the floor: a minimum of $5 a day and a recommendation of $20 to $50 a day. The reason is the Exploration Phase, the first four days or more after launch when the system works out who in your audience responds. Starve it and it never finishes learning.

Two cost rules: budget per ad set, because three ad sets at $5 each will sit in exploration forever; and expect Ramadan and National Day to bring more advertisers into the auction, so start before the season and keep pixel data flowing for cheap post-season retargeting.

Creative that works in the Kingdom

Snap's Saudi National Day guide says it plainly: campaigns perform best with culturally relevant storytelling, Arabic-first creatives, and local dialect, idioms and cultural cues. Our checklist:

  • Arabic first, Saudi dialect. Write the Arabic script, then adapt to English if you need a second ad set. Do not translate an English ad into Modern Standard Arabic and call it localized. The method in our 20-second UGC script formula applies word for word.
  • Vertical, native, fast. It should look like a Snap, not a TV commercial cropped to 9:16. Lead with the product or the person in the first second and keep the bottom clear for the call to action.
  • Sound on, with text as backup. A spoken hook in dialect lands on a camera app people use with audio. Still put the offer on screen.
  • Local creators, licensed. Any individual paid to publish advertising content in Saudi Arabia must hold a Mawthooq license from the General Authority of Media Regulation, as Saudipedia, published by the Ministry of Media, sets out; it names Snapchat. At launch in October 2022 the fee was SR15,000 for three years, per Arab News. Ask for the license number before you sign, and label the post as an ad.
  • Use the camera. A simple Lens Web Builder Lens for National Day or Eid gives people a reason to put your brand in their own Snaps, and 85 percent of Saudi users touch Lenses daily.

Measurement with the Snap Pixel

The Snap Pixel is JavaScript on your website that reports what Snapchatters do after they click: page views, add-to-cart actions, purchases and sign-ups. Snap's measurement page lists three ways to install it: a partner integration (Zid, Salla, Shopify or Google Tag Manager), the no-code Pixel Setup Tool, or pasting the code into the site header. Snap's pixel guide then has you validate it with the Snap Pixel Helper extension and attach it to campaigns.

The pixel does three jobs: it measures cost per purchase and return on ad spend, it builds Pixel Custom Audiences for retargeting and lookalikes, and it feeds delivery optimization, because the system can only find buyers if it knows who bought.

Add the Conversions API on top. It sends the same events server to server and catches what the browser pixel misses; Snap says advertisers using both saw 22 percent more attributed purchases and 18 percent lower cost per purchase. The logic is identical to Meta, which we cover in Meta Pixel vs Conversions API. Both tools are free. For WhatsApp-first funnels, fire a custom event on the WhatsApp button click and optimize to it.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. Launching without the pixel. Spend with no learning and no retargeting audience.
  2. Repurposing a square Instagram post. Letterboxed creative on a full-screen platform gets swiped.
  3. One ad set at the $5 minimum. It never leaves the Exploration Phase.
  4. English-only creative for a Saudi audience. Run Arabic and English as separate ad sets with language targeting.
  5. Paying an unlicensed creator. The Mawthooq rules apply to the person publishing the ad; the brand carries the risk.
  6. Judging on day two. Give the system four days or more before touching budget or audience.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Snapchat ads cost in Saudi Arabia? There is no fixed price; ads are sold in an auction. Snap's published minimum is $5 a day per ad set, with a recommendation of $20 to $50 a day. Snap does not publish average costs per click or per thousand impressions for Saudi Arabia.

How do I make Snapchat ads for the first time? Create a business account at ads.snapchat.com, install the Snap Pixel, then use Advanced Create: choose an objective, build an ad set with locations, audiences and a daily budget, upload a 9:16 image or video with a headline and call to action, and publish.

What is the Snapchat ad size? 9:16 vertical. Export at 1080 x 1920 pixels as .jpg, .png, .mp4 or .mov; Snap accepts 720 x 1280 as the minimum. Static filters are 945 x 2048 and animated filters 720 x 1560.

What Snapchat ad types are there? Single Image or Video Ads, Story Ads, Collection Ads, Sponsored Snaps, Commercials, AR Lenses and Filters. Beginners should start with Single Image or Video; e-commerce brands with Collection Ads.

Is Snapchat Ads Manager free to use? Yes. The business account, Public Profile, Snap Pixel, Conversions API, Snap Publisher and Lens Web Builder are free. You pay only for the media you buy.

Do I need a Mawthooq license to run Snapchat ads in Saudi Arabia? Not for a brand running its own ads through Ads Manager. The license applies to individuals paid to publish advertising content on their own accounts, so any Saudi creator you hire needs one. Check it before you contract, and keep the post labeled as an ad.
